The title of the song is something of a double entendre as it refers to both the narrator's first and last dances with the woman he loves: the first dance was the 'last waltz' played at the party where the two met, and the final dance signified the end of their relationship after their romance had cooled. Robert Burns sent a copy of the original song to the Scots Musical Museum in 1788 with the remark, "The following song, an old song, of the olden times, and which has never been in print, nor even in manuscript until I took it down from an old man." "What'll I Do" is one of the few songs by Irving Berlin that is clearly autobiographical. His fiancée, a society beauty named Ellin MacKay, had been sent to Europe by her disapproving father, a very wealthy Long Island magnate, in the hopes that MacKay would forget Berlin. Alexander's Ragtime Band video
Irving Berlin released this tune in 1911 from Tin Pay Alley. Despite its title, the song is a march as opposed to a rag and contains little syncopation. Berlin's friend Jack Alexander, a cornet-playing African-American bandleader, inspired the title character. We recorded this video at the South Jackson Civic Center on July 28, 2022.

New York, New York video
John Kander and Fred Ebb wrote this song for Martin Scorsese's film, "New York, New York" in 1977 with Liza Minnelli in mind. The song became famous when Frank Sinatra put the song on his 1979 album Trilogy: Past Present Future. It's Been a Long, Long Time video
"It's Been a Long, Long Time" is a big band-era song that was a hit at the end of World War II. The lyrics are written from the perspective of a person welcoming home their spouse at the end of the war. L'il Darlin' video
Neal Hefti composed and arranged Li'l Darlin' for the Count Basie Orchestra who recorded it for their 1958 album. The tune tested the band's temporal mastery with a slow and simple theme that dies if it isn't played at exactly the right tempo. Basie never flinched. Neither did we. We recorded this video at the South Jackson Civic Center on July 28, 2022.

Mr. Anthony's Boogie video
Ray Anthony played in Glenn Miller's band from 1940 to 1941 before starting his own orchestra. The orchestra became popular in the early 1950s with "The Bunny Hop", "Hokey Pokey", and the theme from Dragnet. Mr. Anthony's Boogie is one of his many compositions. Vernon Duke with lyrics by John La Touche and Ted Fetter composed "Taking a Chance on Love" for the 1940 Broadway musical "Cabin in the Sky." The music was composed and arranged by Duke Ellington composed It Don't Mean a Thing in August 1931 during intermissions at the Lincoln Tavern in Chicago, and he first recorded it with his orchestra for Brunswick Records on February 2, 1932. Let the Good Times Roll video
Sam Theard, a New Orleans-born blues singer and songwriter, wrote Let the Good Times Roll with Fleecie Moore, Louis Jordan's wife. Jordan played the tune in Chicago clubs until he finally recorded it in New York City in June 1946. This mid-tempo twelve-bar blues, song became a blues standard and one of Jordan's best-known songs. More (Theme from Mondo Cane) video
Originally, this instrumental score written by Riz Ortolani and Nino Oliviero was the theme for the controversial Italian film, Mondo Cane. Norman Newell wrote the English words, which were later dubbed onto the movie using Oliviero's wife, Katyna Ranieri as the vocalist.
